Investigate

Investigate

The Challenge
Cyber bullying effects everyone, everywhere. I’m going to try and ‘show’ people how much it affects a person with a website.

The Design Brief
I will try and create a short movie with pictures showing the impacts of cyber bullying, the statistics, prevention, etc... The goal of this project is to advertise against cyber bullying.

Essential Questions for Investigation
Does each person react differently?
Does the victim sometimes ignore the bullied words?
What are the statistics of cyber bullying?
                   impacts?
                   preventions?
                   myths?
Does anyone try to prevent being cyber bullied when being cyber bullied?

Information Seeking Strategies
The information I’m going to use is on the internet. I have found already some reliable     sources that may help me with the essential questions. Also, I will read a book to find out some of the impacts and how the victim reacts towards the whole situation. There are also magazines that may be helpful for me to use. I found a movie that shows the impacts, reactions, etc... of cyber bullied people (student at a school) and what they do. All of the people mentioned in the different sources react differently in different situations, this will be very helpful for me.

The Finding of the Investigation

Essential Question 1
In the movie ‘Cyberbu//y’ I found out that the main character doesn’t do anything against the cyber bullying, instead she lets herself fall into a deep depression, eventually leading to an attempt of bullycide (suicide, when being bullied). The girl eventually tells someone (her mom) who comfort her and then seek help including therapy.

Essential Question 2
The book ‘Never Tell: A Novel of Suspense’ by Alafair Burke explains the journey of a girl who keeps the cyber bullying to herself. She doesn’t seek help in any way. Her only option was bullycide. This is a different story and reaction towards cyber bullying because the girl commits suicide instead of telling someone who might help her.

Essential Question 3

The website I found, shows the different ways of preventing cyber bullying, what to do if you’re a victim, the most common way of cyber bullying and how ‘safe’ a social network is.

Essential Question 4
Another website I found is talking about the statistics of cyber bullying. It is very informative and I was able to gain something from it.

Essential Question 5
The next website I found explains the myths. There about 9 myths listed which seem true to me. This will help me with my product because many people may believe things that aren’t true.

Essential Question 6
This is a website for students/children explaining how to seek help if cyber bullied.

Design Specification
  • must be effective
  • must show the message
  • must include pictures
  • must show investigation, design, plan, create and evaluate stage.
  • my design has to be clear and obvious
  • my design has to be understandable
  • people must know what I’m trying to project towards the ‘outside world’
Testing to evaluate the product

The way I’m going to test my product is by making a website to show all the impacts, preventions, etc... and then showing to some people and collect their opinions and use them in my evaluation. Then I have something to evaluate myself on if I’ve listed everything that I think I’ve done right/wrong.
